TOMATO ARTS AWARD, SHANGHAI, CHINA - MAY 2015

I was selected by the Executive Director of the Center for Community Arts Partnerships to travel to China in May 2015 for the Tomato Arts School - Creative Arts Award Contest as their international juror. This competition brought together students and teaching artists from all over China to learn and creative together.

TEACHING ARTIST, PHOTOGRAPHY - CENTER FOR COMMUNITY ARTS PARTNERSHIPS (CCAP)

As a teaching artist for CCAP, I taught programs in photography and digital media. These courses introduced students to observing with a camera. During the summers of 2014 and 2015, I instructed a photography program at the Columbia Summer Arts Summit, which brought together high school students from the Community Schools program. During that program, we focused on exploring Chicago through the lens. Students explored social issues of wealth disparity, violence, racial injustice and differences in Chicago neighborhoods.

STORIES & MORE, CURRICULUM DEVELOPED FOR CROWN COMMUNITY ACADEMY

CENTER FOR COMMUNITY ARTS PARTNERSHIPS (CCAP)

In Spring 2016, I was part of a discussion for Crown Community Academy, a CPS school in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood, to address educational needs and learning gaps within the school. One of the gaps addressed in the discussion was the need for arts & literacy enrichment education for students in grades K-2. I developed a program, "Stories & More", with the underlying concept that students would read stories with Columbia College student mentors, and create art projects or play games that coincided with themes in the stories to reinforce knowledge and learning.

Documentation of this project is coming soon.
